Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian martial art that combines elements of dance, acrobatics and music. It was developed by enslaved Africans in Brazil at the beginning of the 16th century. Capoeira helps develop balance, co-ordination and a general level of fitness and flexibility.
Rick started traditional Capoeira in 2003 under professor Fabiano Lucas. Over many years he has seen students excited to learn Capoeira end up leaving because “traditional Capoeira” requires all students to sing and play traditional Brazilian instruments. Realizing this fear and eliminating the musical aspect from training, Mackavi Capoeira was born.
Mackavi Capoeira blends the defensive and offensive techniques of Capoeira with Yoga and Pilates in order to help students increase flexibility, mental focus, cardiovascular conditioning and muscle development. Students have the ability to advance in rank much like other martial arts through a series of colored cords.
